Product Description: Listing Update #1…This is not so much an update as it is a brief comment about the computers and related parts I have available for sale. Personal computers (and in particular desktop computers) have always been a hobby of mine. I’ve enjoyed tinkering with this stuff over the years and have accumulated a number of items during this time…some new and some used. I am not an expert on the subject…more of an enthusiast…but I will still do my best to answer any questions as it relates to my computer related listings. Thank you. Listing Update #2…I want to draw your attention to the last handful pictures included above. This was a new motherboard that a customer returned because it was not compatible with his 11th generation Intel processor. I told him he could return the motherboard, as long as he had not bent any of the socket pins (as I cannot accept new Intel motherboards back on a return with bent socket pins). The customer confirmed there were no bent pins. I was also told he never installed the motherboard because he could tell immediately the motherboard socket size was different from the footprint of his 11th generation processor. So again, I said okay, and told him to send the motherboard back to me. Unfortunately, upon my receipt, I noticed he mistakenly installed the protective socket cover upside-down, which bent a number of pins without him knowing it. I have taken pictures of the socket cover installed by the customer upside-down, so you can see how this bent a number of pins. I’ve also taken pictures of the socket and some of the bent pins are visible, but if I am being completely honest, there are more bent pins then what you see in the pictures. I do believe the customer when he says this was a mistake and the motherboard was never installed, as the rear shield is still sealed in it’s packaging, as are the SATA data cables, etc. So all the accessories are still included and in new/unused condition. The motherboard also still looks new, if not for the bent socket pins. So I worked out an arrangement with the customer where I would partially refund him and sell this motherboard as a “for parts or not working” offering. It’s really too bad, because this was a brand new motherboard and these Z390’s are becoming harder to source. Although, if there is someone out there with the technical/practical expertise to work on these sockets and straighten the pins, then this may represent a good opportunity and deal. One final note…at this deeply discounted price and given the “for parts or not working” classification, I want to emphasize this is an “as is sale” and no returns will be accepted. Original Listing… This offering is for a new GIGABYTE Z390 UD motherboard with a LGA 1151 socket for 8th/9th generation Intel processors. It’s an ATX (form factor) and includes a decent feature set. My research indicates this motherboard has a 10 (Vcore) + 2 (Vsoc) phase VRM (Voltage Regulator Module) with heatsinks over both VRMs to further aid in cooling. This is not a top-end Z390 motherboard, but it’s my favorite among the entry-level models due primarily to the superior VRM. The 10+2 phase VRM is best-in-class when considering all of the Z390 entry-level motherboards that support 8th/9th generation Intel processors. It’s capable of running an Intel Core i9-9900K processor at stock speeds with relative ease. Additionally, it’s the only entry-level Z390 motherboard that I am aware of to survive brutal stress testing of an overclocked Intel Core i9-9900K at 5 GHz. I did not perform this stress testing, but some quick research will reveal this testing online from respected sources. Now I would not recommend overclocking a Core i9-9900K with this motherboard. I know it survived the aforementioned stress testing, but that does not make it an ideal overclocking candidate for Intel’s flagship 9th generation processor. There are more capable and expensive Z390 motherboards that are better suited for such grueling overclocking demands. Although, this motherboard does include all the overclocking features (for “K” processors and DDR4 memory). So if you want a motherboard that is capable of overclocking an Intel 8th/9th generation Core i3, i5 or i7 processor (and DDR4 memory), then this offering may be worthy of your consideration. If your preference is to run any Intel 8th/9th generation processor (including the Core i9-9900K) at stock speeds, then the power delivery on this motherboard will be more than adequate, and likely better than any of the other entry-level Z390 motherboards under most conditions. Having said the above, I thought it might also be helpful if I shared a specifications sheet of sorts that provides more details…. Chipset / Socket Type: Z390 chipset that supports the LGA 1151 socket for 8th/9th generation Intel processors. Size: ATX form factor that measures 12″ x 9″ Memory: 128 GB (max) of DDR4 memory (4 x 288 pin slots)…dual channel supported and max clock speed of 4266 MHz. Note: the max clock speed is coming from the GIGABYTE website and seems a bit optimistic to me). Audio: Integrated Realtek ALC887 audio that supports up to 7.1 (8 channel) surround sound w/8 speakers (integrated means the sound card is built onto the motherboard) LAN: Integrated Realtek GbE LAN chipset w/transfer rate up to 1000 Mbps or 1 Gbps Wireless LAN (aka WiFi) and Bluetooth: Not applicable on this motherboard. So if desired, will need to be added via a PCIe expansion card or a USB adapter. Input/Output ports (rear shield): two PS/2 (mouse and keyboard), one video (HDMI), six blue USB Type-A (3.2 Gen 1 running at 5 Gb/s), a RJ-45 Network (LAN) with LED indicator, blue audio input (various devices), green audio output (headphone, two-channel speakers or front speakers), pink audio input (microphone) Storage ports/sockets: six SATA 3.0 ports and one M.2 Socket 3 with Type M key that will accommodate sizes 2242/2260/2280/22110 (SATA 3.0 or PCIe 3.0 support up to x4 lanes for SSD). Note1: data transfer rates are as follows…SATA 3.0 is stated at 6 Gb/s (750 MB/s, but it’s actually less due to the overhead caused by the 8b/10b SATA encoding scheme. This lowers the actual transfer rate to about 80%, or 4.8 Gb/s, which when divided by 8 bits gives us 600 MB/s.), PCIe 2.0 is 4 Gb/s (500 MB/s) per lane and PCIe 3.0 is 8 Gb/s (1 GB/s) per lane. So as it relates to PCIe supported sockets, just multiply the number of lanes available by the applicable PCIe transfer rate and this will give you the theoretical maximum bandwidth for that socket (FYI: PCIe overhead is about 3%, due to a more efficient encoding scheme. So PCIe transfer rates are closer to their theoretical maximums relative to SATA transfer rates.). Note2: SATA SSDs are usually B+M keyed and this hybrid key design will fit in either a B or M keyed socket. Note3: We generally use bits-per-second to measure transfer speeds, but bytes-per-second to measure data, because it takes 8 bits (or 1 byte) to encode a single character of text. Expansion slots: one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot running at x16 lanes, two PCIe 3.0 x16 slots running at x4 lanes and two PCIe 3.0 x1 slots running at x1 lane. Note: data transfer rates are as follows…PCIe 2.0 is 4 Gb/s (500 MB/s) per lane and PCIe 3.0 is 8 Gb/s (1 GB/s) per lane. So just multiply the number of lanes available in a particular slot by the applicable PCIe transfer rate and this will give you the theoretical maximum bandwidth for that slot. Other: There are other available headers/connectors on the motherboard and I can try to answer related questions or refer you to the manufacturer’s website for a full motherboard description. In terms of condition, this is a customer return with bent processor socket pins, as discussed in “Listing Update #2. It will still come to you in it’s original retail box/packaging, but the box is now a bit shopworn. I opened the box to confirm all the accessories and literature/manuals were still present (and they are). Of course, the pictures above with the protective socket cover mistakenly installed upside-down by the customer will be corrected for the next customer (so no further damage will be done to the socket pins). I should also confirm that all the pictures uploaded above represent this actual offering (so there are no “stock” pictures included above).
