Offered for your consideration is one (1) vintage Heppner Alnico magnet 8 inch full-range driver, USA-manufactured in 1970. As you probably know, suburban Chicago’s Heppner was a notable supplier to the domestic speaker industry from the 1960’s to the 1980’s. Per the EIA source/date code stamped on the magnet cover, 575036, this driver was made by Heppner (575) in the 36th week of 1970. Please have a look at my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this splendid Heppner speaker should be yours. This Heppner full range driver is in clean, excellent condition. The sturdy textured paper cone is in perfect shape and the textile voice coil dust cap has no dents or dimples. Plus, this speaker has an ancillary or “whizzer” cone to enhance the high frequency response and it’s in perfect shape too. Also, the surround is treated fabric that is permanent, as opposed to the non-durable foam that was coming into widespread use at the time. There are a few stains visible that are on the underside of the surround, where some factory assembly glue landed in error. And, the galvanized, black-enameled steel basket is in great shape with no dents or oxidation, just a few small paint scuffs. In addition, the magnet cover has aluminum dust shields which add a nice touch. And, the double-type +/- terminals measure the standard .205”, are marked for polarity, and have been de-soldered on one pair of spades. Overall, this Heppner driver is exceptionally well-preserved. Most importantly, it’s been fully tested and sounds great with clear, fast mid frequencies, strong bass response, and treble at the threshold of audibility. Plus, I tested its DC resistance at 5.2Ω consistent with a nominal 8 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the basket measures 8¼” diameter, it stands 3½” tall, and the four-corner mounting holes are spaced 5½” adjacent / 7¾” on the diagonal apart, c-t-c. So, as pictured and described, this remarkable Heppner 8” full-range speaker is offered at a competitive price.
